First Thoughts on House Style

I believe that House Styles have contributed to making magazines organized, as well as attracting an audience. Magazines use House Styles so that they are able to attract their demographic. House Styles might be developed by grouping individuals and having them decide who they want to target, what they want to portray, and how they want their audience to feel. The genre of the magazine influences the House Style because they want to establish a different feel depending on their topic. Therefore, they might use contrasting color schemes, coverlines, and cover models if their magazine genre was gardening or business.

Conventions

Magazines require certain conventions that they all need to follow. I will mention and explain them below.  •Nameplate/masthead- The font that makes the magazine recognizable. It is specifically designed to attract an audience.  •Taglines- Taglines are used to show what the magazine is about. •Coverlines- Coverlines mention the topics included. •Central image- The central Image draws an audience before they can even read the magazine.  •Cover model- Cover models are usually celebrities that have a strong connection to the magazine's genre.  •Color scheme- The color scheme is used to target a demographic.  •Barcodes- Barcodes are used to Identify your magazine.                  Reference: https://www.slideshare.net/shsgmedia/magazine-conventions-andterminology                                                                Cosmopolitan Magazine

Magazine Research

Magazines have been around as early as the late sixteenth hundreds and early seventeenth hundreds. According to "Magazine Publishing", the earliest magazine was published in 1663-68 by Johann Rist, a theologian in Hamburg, Germany. Soon after his publication, more periodicals were being released in France, England, and Europe. However, the first published magazine in America took place in 1741. Many magazines that were released to the public were restricted because of censorship. In the nineteenth century, periodical topics varied from improvement, family entertainment, enlightenment, and amusement. Additionally, the first magazines in the United States that included illustrations consisted of Leslie's Weekly and Harper's Weekly in 1855-1922. Women were a big part of the consumer culture when it came to magazines. Helen Gordon Lazareff released a women's magazine that had an impact on the way many women thought, spoke and perceived themselves. With time, new magaz

A Bit About Me

As a child, I've always loved expressing myself through my writing or even oral communication. It was and continues to be releasing and often helped me self-reflect, however, I was consistently told that what I had to say had no value because I was "just a child". Further, into my development, I chose to refrain from giving out my unwanted opinions. With time I realized that what I had to say was just as important as any other person. I chose this class to encourage my self-expression and get in touch with my creative side. I would describe myself as an ultimately bubbly person who loves being outdoors, acknowledging my present moment, and giving gratitude to all that I have. In the future, I hope to take Buddhist studies and study abroad.                                                                     Reference: Canva.com

Syllabus Reflection

I am looking forward to doing research for my topic, creating original photos, and documenting my creative process. However, I am slightly nervous to use editing software, creating good content for my magazine, and for the written exam at the end of this course. I hope to gain more insight into media and the effects it has on social views.                                                              Reference: Canva.com

Introduction

Hello, and welcome to my first blog post!     My name is Breanna, and I've created this blog to take you on my journey throughout my AICE Media Studies Course. I have chosen to create a four-page magazine that will consist of a magazine cover, contents page, and a double-page spread. In this blog, I will be creating an Introductory/Preliminary blog and incorporating research, planning, production, and a reflection once I've reached the end of my media product. Furthermore, I will be solely working on my magazine edition and submitting my own Individual project. Luckily, I will be able to benefit from my communication and writing skills while writing this blog. However, I do wish to learn how to use critical theories of media studies and subject-specific terminology.
