Preliminary Feature Writing Practice (narrative)

 4. The police in this municipality received a call at 3:45 p.m. yesterday afternoon. A woman shouted at the sergeant who answered the telephone. She said: "My son's been beaten. His teacher whipped him this afternoon, and he's all red where she paddled him. Can teachers do that? That's assault and battery, and I want her arrested." Two police officers were sent to the home. They questioned the boy, who is 9 years old. At his mother's insistence, the police officers also inspected the boy's reported injuries. They reported: "We couldn't tell that the boy had been paddled. His fanny didn't look red to us, but we did notice that his pants legs were wet and muddy. As we talked, it became obvious that the boy was lying. He finally admitted that he had stopped to play on the way home from school, forgot the time, and got home late. He told his mother that the teacher had spanked him and kept him after school. His mother was there with us and heard the whole story. She said she'd take of the situation, and we're quite certain that she will, as she was very embarrassed. In fact, we could hear her giving the kid a real paddling as we left—and a hard one."

9-year-old boy, Liam was already trying to come up with a lie, one that would make sense, one that would save him from getting in trouble. He knew the anger his mother would possess if she found out he stopped at the playground rather than coming straight home like usual. He thought profoundly and convinced himself that telling his mother his teacher had paddled him after school would be a good idea. However, little did he know the situation he was putting himself in. As soon as he delivered this information to her when he got home, she immediately picked up the phone and dialed 911. She screamed into the phone saying "My son's been beaten by his teacher. I want her arrested for assault and battery!"

Two police officers had arrived at their home to question the boy about the incident. They reported that they couldn't tell if Liam had been paddled since his fanny didn't look red to them. Although, they did recognize that the bottom of his pants was wet and filled with mud. During questioning, Liam became nervous and seemed unsure about his own story. The officers understood that he was lying and later Liam confessed what really happened. "Um.. my teacher didn't exactly paddle me. I kinda stopped at the park after school and lost track of time. I'm sorry for lying mom, I really didn't want to get you upset," he said anxiously. She was filled with embarrassment and continuously apologized to the officers for wasting their time. But they all knew that Liam was going to be in big trouble.

So when I first started my um my product, I did do some research on what made a magazine and what were the necessary conventions I needed to use, um and I did find that I had to include a masthead, taglines, cover lines, um as well as have a cover model, color schemes and a barcode. Um, I did input these things into my magazine because I did want to make it look as realistic as possible. As for the social issues that were included um, my whole magazine is based off self-acceptance and I talked a lot about um the hardships that people have faced and what it took for them to finally accept and love themselves for who they were. Um, I think this is a really big issue today because you will meet a lot of teenagers who are not happy with themselves, um whether that be their physical vessel or the

And like I've said before, self-acceptance, self-love, you know struggling with self is just really common today, unfortunately. Um but that in itself has the capability of attracting an audience and making them feel like they're there. Um and the reason being is because they too feel the same way. They've felt down about themselves, they felt like they weren't good enough, they've compared themselves and that in itself um, yeah they just feel like, you know they can engage with us, we can engage with them with our words.
