Costume/Props

The Importance of Costumes & Props:

Costumes and props are both essential to creating an idea about someone or something. Costumes can help set a theme, as well as help you understand someone a little better. For instance, before you truly get to know someone, you only judge them based on their appearance and the way they dress. Sometimes people can form relationships based on similarities in how they dress or present themselves. For instance, if we look at the music industry we are able to recognize the differences between how a male rapper presents himself with clothing and props vs how a female rapper does. Below are some pictures that distinguish the difference.

Most female rappers tend to wear tight clothing that emphasizes certain body parts. Additionally, they tend to hide their natural hair with different types of hair extensions. However, most male rappers are seen with braids or dreads and baggy clothing. I believe these differences have a lot to do with both social norms and gender roles.
